If you spend any time at all on Facebook you may be familiar with Eldad Hagar and Hope for Paws. Eldad is a rescuer of animals and there are numerous videos offered up for viewing that show him in action. The lost, the injured; the abused, neglected, frightened, confused; the. ill – it is Eldad’s mission to save these poor creatures. And save them he does, in significant numbers and out of any number of miserable circumstances.
Most of them are dogs, and few of them appear to want to be rescued. Their fear is palpable. They run if they can and hide if they’re able. They cower and cry and struggle when it happens – they’re caught and cannot get loose.
With gentle handling, however, and soft sweet words, often accompanied by kisses on their heads given by Eldad’s assistants, they always calm some. After the bath, flea treatment, care of the wounds, hearty meal, and safe sleep in a soft bed, almost all of them awaken to their new lives with gratitude and joy. In just a couple of days they’re completely different dogs – they run and play and give kisses and come when called. They gain weight and heal. Resistance was not in their best interest. In spite of themselves, though, they were saved. When the struggling stopped and the cooperation commenced something good – something very good – could be done with and for them.
It’s like that with us. Jesus wants to save us. He whispers (or shouts), offers (or withholds), chases (or tiptoes) – does whatever it takes to catch us. We run, we fight it, we whimper and cry as we attempt to evade capture. This is not in our best interest.
If we’re so fortunate as to be caught our true life, the life we were meant for, begins. We get fed and bathed and treated for our ills and put back on our feet. We find that getting caught is what we really wanted, and needed, all along.
In Him we have hope and a future. Without Him, not so much.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Pray for all those that God is impressing to come to the meetings that they will let themselves be caught and changed by God's incredible love.
