Discipleship University Course:
SDA Church History and Structure, 101. By Richard Wright
Welcome. "Our Adventist Heritage" Seminar is a course you'll enjoy, learn much from, and that will open your eyes to God's overarching care of His Church.
Richard Wright is a retired History teacher who both knows his stuff and loves church history. His past seminar on general church history was well attended and enjoyed.

"We have all heard of Ellen White. Most of us have heard of Joseph Bates, Uriah Smith and James White. We may have read or heard stories about these people. Some of us are familiar with historic controversies, such as the 1888 General Conference, the Kellogg crisis, and Desmond Ford. But for many of us, the above people and events are not connected.
My goal is to provide you with an overview of the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church -- beginning with the Millerite movement and bringing you up-to-date with the latest events and people. I hope to familiarize you with our heritage. I will attempt to answer questions that people might wish to have more fully explained. For example, what role did Ellen White play in the formation of Adventist beliefs? How is the world's largest cereal company related to Adventism? What U.S. president had Adventist relatives? What are "Progressive Adventists?" Where does our tithe money go?
As I have done with my seminars on the history of the Christian Church, I use PowerPoint presentations, worksheets, and printed summaries to cover the history and structure of our own SDA church in seven sessions. I will demonstrate how, at various times in our past history, people have claimed the our church was doomed. But we have overcome each crisis, and continued to grow. I hope that attendees will find these presentations interesting, and I pray that the Holy Spirit will work through these meetings to help them realize that God has lead our church in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
When: 7 pm. Tuesdays from January 3- February 21 (except Valentine's day)
Where: Fireside Chapel at Vancouver SDA Church
